家园 I’m not a master

in economics. My daily job falls into the broad category of data analysis. To anyone in the field of data analysis (and also economics, presumably), Excel is more of a reporting tool than an analytical or decision making tool. Excel’s strength is on accounting (journal entry and general ledger) and FP&A (budgeting and planning, conventional cost and price analysis, and financial reporting). But not on data analysis. Excel can only handle very basic data analysis such as simple linear regression and SLR ANOVA. For anything more advanced and sophisticated (such as multi-variant, logistic, or non-linear regressions) you’ll have to go for professional analytical tools, such as SAS, Minitab, SPSS, CrystalBall, etc. And you need fairly advanced statistical knowledge and skills (Master in statistics) to be able to use these professional tools correctly.
