Current US living standards depend on the absolute control over the worldwide energy and raw material resources. A rising Chinese living standards/manufacturing power will challenge this global control. Such competition might put these two nations on an unavoidable colluding course.

Because this earth can support Americans of lavish style, Europe-Japan with middle-class standards, but could not add an additional middle-class China with 1.36b people. If Chinese want to live the American life, you need 2 more earths for that purpose. Niall Ferguson has made it very clear.

Anglo-American elites know the current compromise and cooperation are out of necessity. But as soon as America recovered, America will do everything to weaken China and reduce USD's reliance on China for its global reserve status.

A manufacturing/export powerhouse, fixed peg rate. Those are cancer cells on a fiat-currency-based global financial system.

And Americans, due to the most effective democratic system, could not endure a declining living standard without taking radical and dangerous diplomatic/military actions.
