The Parthian tactics was what made them such unbeatable foes to the Greeks and Romans. The best documented involves the light horse archers riding forward and peppering the enemy with arrows, then they would turn around and retreat, while still firing arrows all the way to a certain point were the cataphracts lay in wait. Once the enemy reached that point the cataphracts would charge forward screaming while a large camel mounted war drum was beat upon unceasingly. The horse archers would meanwhile be loading up on arrows brought up on supply camels, and then they would reassume firing until the enemy was beat. This tactic was effective on many levels and usually assured victory if everything went right. All other tactics are believed to be more or less based upon the above. The Parthians had no siege tactics as the essence of the whole Parthian army was speed. There was a time limit as it seems on how long the Parthians could keep their army together before the azats left for home; this was the primary weakness of the Parthian Empire.
