Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, and countless other dynasties before them, looked decidedly NOT "middle-road" to me. I'm not saying this whole thing will blow up. But it's delusional to think that somehow this government, no matter what it does, is beyond the reach of the same rules that have governed China for 2500 years. What does all the belief about some mystical governmental power that, if the government really wants to do something, it can do it, come from? If that's the case, Mao's great leap forward would have succeeded, the undeniable historical facts are: Ming Emperors DIDN'T want their dynasty to die such a violent death, yet they still didn't do what's necessary to rectify all the problems plaguing their dynasty? Why? Because they can't, and because what paltry policy initiative they embarked on were too little too late. Just because it's 21st century doesn't mean the same principle wouldn't apply. The bottom line:
1.government isn't omnipotent, or they would never have been free market reform.
2. nobody wants to die, but everybody dies.
