But "BC relies on fishing and tourism" may not hold.

BC's economy is more a resource based economy, mainly lumbers and mining (other things than dirty oilsand oil, may not be undirty). Lumber conflicts with US was and probably is a long lasting issue... Tourism should be big too. I don't know about fishing but fishing sounds more maritimes to me...
