家园 baby boomers are more well-

organized. There is professional association for elders who lobbied aggressively for the benefits of old people.

Young people are going to pay for the explosive costs of the medicare (esp., prescription drug D), but most young americans are stupidly naive and unrealistically optimistic about their own future. Most of them never calculate their own pension/medicare costs in the long run. Younger generation are high on self-confidence (indulged by their parents), but low on perseverance, education, skill and hard work ethics.

More importantly, young people are idealistic and easily divisive (e.g, girl A is more pretty than girl B, bingo, zero possibility of alliance). They never treasure their voting power and are excessively obsessed about sex, rather than MONEY. HARD FOR THEM TO FORM A UNITED VOTING BLOCK.

I guess middle-aged people are more inclined towards elders than to the kids in the 20s or 30s. They are not far away from retirement, so it is wise not to rock the boat.

America has only 15 years of windows--after that, the entitlement reform is close to impossible--age distribution is there: more elders than young ones. The majority of elders will not fight against their own interests.

The exception is David Walker, the guy in the movie I.O.U.S.A. He is in his late 50s, a very rich former Anderson parter and a member of WASP elite families. It is clear from his past experience and high public service spirit.

I think it will be a losing battle FOR the younger generation of Americans.

buddy: after each major credit bubble burst, there will be a prolonged period of painful adjustment. You have to be patient when facing a probable 10-year of low growth in America. I have written off the 2008-2017 period for America.
