Does smoking increase your risk of severe Covid?

Yes. A review by the World Health Organization found that smoking is associated with more severe illness and an increased risk of death in people who need hospital treatment for Covid-19.

A UK study published in January 2021 suggests that current smokers who get coronavirus are twice as likely to attend hospital and tend to report more symptoms than non-smokers. The analysis, by researchers from Imperial College London, King’s College London, and ZOE (a health symptom tracking app) looked at data from 2.4 million people in the UK who self-reported their symptoms and test results.
