家园 Component is capable of 1080i or 1080p

Sorry to post in English.

HDMI or DVI is digital and can add copy protection. While component is analog and no copy protection.

So for un-protectable output(component out), they want to down grade(for HDDVD) to or limit(for current DVD) at 480p. I know for up-converting current DVD, this limitation is implemented on players. Some player will only output 1080i/p through DVI or HDMI connection. Component is limited to 480p.

I think on HDDVD side, this is implemented both on disk and player. If the disk say don't send 1080p to component out, then the player won't. But if the disk don't have this limit, then we can get 1080i/p throught component out.

New HDDVD disks that are out right now don't have this limitation. Because they want to make sure owners of older HDTV can watch HD content without HDMI or DVI connection. After all, they need these early adaptors to buy HDDVD players.

I have Iodata's AV Linkplayer2. For close to two years now. It does 1080i upconversion for regular DVD via component out. But their two most recent firmware upgrades had taken this feature away. Somewhere I read that Sony player don't have this limitation.
