Just a few minutes ago my friend in Shanghai sent out SMS with Liu's name in simplified Chinese characters and had experienced no trouble in both sending and receiving the message.

家园 好吧，纽约时报有才！ 给记者Andrew去信以后，回头一看是改了，改动的还不少，原来两页的新闻变成三页了。是这么改的：
原来：
"He is the first Chinese citizen to win the Peace Prize..."与事实不符，硬伤一处，删了。添了这么一段：
"He is one of three people to have received the prize while incarcerated by their own governments, after the Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi in 1991, and the German pacifist Carl von Ossietzky in 1935."有才，可乐
！原来：
"Headlines about the award were nowhere to be found in the state media or on the country's main Internet portals."我告诉他新华网、新浪、央视都提到了那个the award以后，这句话原封不动还在，而在这之前添了这么一段：
The Chinese Foreign Ministry reacted angrily to the news, calling it a “desecration” of the peace prize and saying it would harm Norwegian-Chinese relations. 添的这些料就是从新华网、新浪以及后来跟进的各媒体上的通稿翻得。这不是前后矛盾吗，不把新华网、新浪当做“the country's main Internet portals”？那央视的东方时空也不算“state media”？
后来使劲想，想通了。诸位仔细看，那句的开头是，“Headlines...”得了，有了，不用改了，为啥？国内媒体没有封锁消息，但也没有make it headline news，他说的就是这个。所以我们看到
“Headlines about the award were nowhere to be found ...”
应该和
“News about the award were nowhere to be found ...”
区别理解!相当有挑战，看纽约时报GRE逻辑不够，得GMAT才行。

家园 这俩也不是在中国获的奖吧？没错，他们两个当时的国籍是中国 其实国外的都知道，他们不算在中国获的奖，因为出成果所在的地方不在中国。

家园 敌人在“教导”我们什么叫“阶级斗争” 伟人曾教导我们：“千万不要忘记阶级斗争”；可后人愣有人说“阶级斗争熄灭论”。从二代到三代、四代都不讲阶级斗争了，似乎阶级斗争真的没有了。若真的没有到好说，天下太平谁不愿意。可事实不是如此，国内的就不说了，国际阶级斗争则是越来越激烈，你不讲阶级斗争，敌人天天给你讲，这不是在给你上着课么。
总理还在人家窝里转圈圈访问，好像刚转到突厥，昨天还在大表“友好合作”，扯淡“不会禁止稀土出口”，紧接着人家对着你的脸就唱起了“阶级斗争”的小曲，恶心你一把……这几天晚上的新闻联播，人家公布一个奖，就跟屁虫似的接连报一个。可，今晚不吱声了，新华网也没有动静。大概还没想好怎么说的台词……
俺还是从The NEW WORK TIMES网上看来的，人家对刘某人的褒奖的“封号”也很明确“Chinese Dissident”。人还关在北京监狱里，西方人给他送钱来了，按去年的数额是1000万瑞典克朗，今年如果差不多的话，够在北京买一套豪宅的。
