coz, the actual brightness on the film is same as in day time. agree? :)
that is the difference, that guy used 400*2=800mm, his image of moon on the film is about full of the frame, and yours is only 1/3 , and you enlarge it, so loose the sharpness. I have *2 tele-converter, but I do not have long lens. I am thinking of getting a 180f2.8. do you have any idea? thanks buddy
I thought about this.
The moon light is very dynamic. It changes every minutes, when it is rising from the horizon.
On full moon day, or one day before, the exposure meter in camera can make right measurements only at the moon rising time, when the sky is still bright and the moon is not very bright. In about 1/2 or 1 hour the moon is in its full brightness, no any exposure meter, either matrix or spot, would work for you.
The expo of moon should be the same as sun shine 16 rule? Well, maybe, maybe not.
Based on my experiments I will shoot the moon in full brightness with f=11, shutter speed 1/125 to 1/500, depending the clearness of sky. Sometimes around the moon there are thin clouds that cannot be seen by our eyes, but they may change the camera exposure.
The half moon, at the first/last quarter, is less bright than the full moon.
In December of 2005,
Dec. 14 moon rise 15:16, set 6:26;
Dec. 15 moon rise 16:03, set 7:32; (full moon night)
Dec. 16 moon rise 16:59, set 8:29;
(Chicago: Central Standard Time)
Have fun.
