这些股票是因为以前的股东集体诉讼赢了官司之后，北电为25亿美元的赔偿额用股票的形式支付，这相当于现在股票总额的15%，一方面稀释了每股的净资产和盈利，另外一方面当然也构成沉重的卖压，尤其是该公司的盈利前景并不乐观的时候。

虽然新闻中提到一个投资机构Brandes增持了北电股份，但是那是去年已经发生的事情，并不是现在和将来还要增持。这个新闻报道的标题很奇怪，居然用的是现在式，看来还是想忽悠，包括提到这家机构赌北电可能成为收购对象，有利大户出货罢了。像这种5年都没有明朗盈利前景的公司有什么收购的价值？这样的提法本身就有忽悠的嫌疑。

The National Post reports in its Thursday, March 22, edition that Brandes Investment Partners is Nortel Networks' biggest single shareholder. A CanWest News Service dispatch to the Post reports that Brandes doubled its interest in Nortel last year to 10.8 per cent. CanWest says Brandes may be betting Nortel might be bought or be a buyer. Brandes owned 46.8 million shares last year, according to Nortel's annual report. Brandes has owned Nortel stock for several years. Brandes has interests in several other companies in the telecommunications business. A recent Nortel regulatory finding says Mike Zafirovski was the best paid employee of Nortel Networks last year. He received a compensation package of $8.27-million (U.S.). Chief financial officer Peter Currie, who is leaving Nortel, was second at $2.25-million (U.S.). Nortel did not provide comparable pay packages for 2005. The filings say Nortel plans to spread out the issuance of 62.9 million shares to settle a $2.5-billion (U.S.) shareholder class-action suit into the second half of this year. The move is designed to ease fears the addition of almost 15 per cent more shares will drive down prices.
