What is the purpose of life? The is the question which I can’t stop asking myself after I watched the movie over and over again.

What would you have done if you were to have political power

to make a change in society? This is what William Wilberforce had done. He graduated from Cambridge and was elected to the house of commons at age of 21. He and his close friend William Pitt who was the youngest prime minister at age of 24 in British history led the abolitionist movement through their political career. William Wilberforce dedicated his entire life to leading the fight to abolish slavery. After almost 20 years fighting against slave trade, the slave trade through-out the British empire was finally abolished in 1807. he also had huge impact in societal reforms, and improving life on poors, etc.

At very young age he was searching the purpose of life. He decided to answer the call from God to help society and people. In the movie,

there is a scene that he was doing soul searching in his garden, and felt called from God. He told his butler :” I didn’t find god, god found me”. The director also portrayed that he was deeply compassioned. He had invited poors to his house to give them food; he stopped to save the sick horse; he saved wounded rabbit in his house, etc. He was a true noble man with

unparalleled compassion.

The movie started with well-known song called “Amazing Grace”. The lyrics was written by John Newton, who helped William Wilberforce to fight against slave trade. There was a amazing story of John Newton’s life. He started his sea voyages at age of 11. He trade almost 20,000 slaves

from Africa. During one voyage in the sea, there was a huge storm which would have destroyed the slave ship. John Newton prayed to God and the ship survived afterward. That amazing event changed his life forever and he quit slave trade and was converted to Christian. The song was known as hope for the hopeless.

I finished the movie with tears. What an amazing history! I believe that there is a grace deeply buried in everyone’s heart. You just have to find it. There is a purpose in life. Everyone has one. If you are connected with the grace in your heart, your purpose of life is going to be amazing and meaningful
