Dear colleagues,
As you might have already known, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Sichuan province, southwest China, on Monday, May 12th. As of today, May 17th, the death toll has reached to 28,881 with another 198,347 injured. 27,560 have been saved and 14,000 still buried under the debris. Behind every number, it’s someone’s son or daughter; husband or wife; dad or mom. They have family, friends, neighbors, colleagues. Just like you and me.
It is a devastating disaster. I cried seeing so many suffered, yet I also smiled and deeply moved seeing so many touching stories: teachers and parents protected children when buildings collapsed on them; doctors and nurses saved lives when their own kids were buried in nearby buildings; people lined up to donate blood…
Chinese are doing the best. The world is generous and offered help.
