最后，我想唤起你们人道主义的一面，以及我们每个人心中人道主义的一面。

关于气候变化的一个最残酷的讽刺是，那些受害最深的人们正是那些最无辜的人们——穷人以及尚未出生的孩子。1967年马丁.路德 .金在纪念越战结束的演讲中的一句话大概可以为今天的气候危机作一个合适的注解：“This call for a worldwide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one's tribe, race, class, and nation is in reality a call for an all-embracing and unconditional love for all mankind. This oft misunderstood, this oft misinterpreted concept, so readily dismissed by the Nietzsches of the world as a weak and cowardly force, has now become an absolute necessity for the survival of man ....We are now faced with the fact, my friends, that tomorrow is today. We are confronted with the fierce urgency of now. In this unfolding conundrum of life and history, there is such a thing as being too late.”

最后我还想引用William Faulkner于1950年12月10日在诺贝尔奖晚宴上的演讲中的一句话。面对当时潜在的世界核大战威胁，他以一个人道主义者的身份发表演讲。他说：“I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance. The poet's, the writer's, duty is to write about these things. It is his privilege to help man endure by lifting his heart, by reminding him of the courage and honor and hope and pride and compassion and pity and sacrifice which have been the glory of his past.”

2009届毕业生们，在不久的未来你们将担当极为重要的角色。随着你们踏入生命的下一个阶段，你们定将以无限的智慧与热忱去追求自我价值的实现。追求个人成功固然重要，但它不应当成为你唯一的目标。当你最后变成一个头发花白的老人，回首往事的时候你会想要为自己的所作所为感到骄傲。这份骄傲不会来自于你获得的财富或的名誉，而是来自于你对他人的付出以及对这个世界的创造。今后无论在哪一行，我希望你们能产生为世界做贡献的愿望与行动。没有什么会比这更令你感到骄傲和满足的了。
