The US is the only nation in the world to base on free market mechanism. If the US government defaulted the bonds held by Chinese government, regardless what would happen in the US and in the world, in retaliation, Chinese government would freeze all the assets belonged to the US institutes, in current circumstances, the US assets in China could be very much equal to the amount of US treasurer bonds held by Chinese government. At meantime, the top US companies would be the biggest victims, due to the fact that their manufacture chain would be suffocated.

Having only considered these two simple issues, it is unthinkable for the US government to freeze or default the bonds held by Chinese government.
