瓦罗在逃走后，并没有受到惩处。回到罗马反而受到感谢，感谢他在最黑暗的时刻没有对罗马失去信心。而以后瓦罗似乎还在仕途上还屡受重任。
Gaius Terentius Varro (fl. 3rd century BC) was a Roman consul and commander. Along with his colleague, Lucius Aemilius Paullus, he commanded at the Battle of Cannae during the Second Punic War, in 216 BC, against the Carthaginian general Hannibal. The battle resulted in a decisive Roman defeat.
Varro had been a praetor in 218 BC. He was proconsul in Picenum from 215–213 BC, and in 208–207 BC, as propraetor he held Etruria against Hannibal's younger brother Hasdrubal Barca. He went to Africa, in 200 BC as ambassador.
以上瓦罗的任职都来自李维。这就让人怀疑是不是瓦罗真是战败的罪魁祸首，还是当时有不为人知的有利于他的事实。
