DirecTV's HD Tivo can be modified to pass everything to PC. problem is, the resulting file is so big a DVD can hold less then half hour of content. That's compressed HD content, mind you.
New Tivo does allow people to transfer programs to PC digitally, then you can do whatever you want with it.
TV programs are everywhere if you look. It's probably easier to download them.
