家园 Just make points, nothing personal,

1. It is totally true that the US government was hesitated to make any deal with any communism countries, because what happened at Berlin. There was no mutually trust with these two potential groups, one led by USSR, and another led by the USA. But nobody can deny that the high level US officials or military officers were all sympathetic to Mao, including George Marshall, who was Secretary of State at that period of time. Mao was also hesitated to form an ally with USSR because of the history between China and USSR. Mao and the US government all made mistakes due to the fact that they took too long to guess other party’s real intention. Korea War made everything different and difficult.

2. It was the US government sent the 7th fleet to the Taiwan Strait, but that was after Korea War broke out, it was a reasonable move by the US part. Macarthur was the person to blame, it was why Truman had to get rid of him, no another reason but he really pissed Truman off, we have to remember that Macarthur was national hero in the US.

3. If USSR provided enough air support, why did the Chinese army supply line suffer tremendous lose. Initially USSR sent some pilots to China, main purpose is to train Chinese pilots and at beginning, the USSR pilots joined Chinese pilots during initial stage of the war, but not last long. USSR also promised that Chinese provided men power and USSR took care the rest, but why Chinese had to compensate USSR until 60’s, in the end, USSR only provided loan to Chinese government, and Chinese government had to pay back the loan. It was one unspeakable reason when USSR and China broke their relationship at 60’s. China was cheated by USSR, and had to swallow the bitterness by itself.
