My father was a worker. At his time, (30 years ago) most of the workers were hired from the countryside. Therefore an interesting rule by his company was, every May and September there were two major vacations for all workers who had a family in the countryside. In May they went back to harvest wheat and in September they harvest corn.

This is definitely a good idea.
