Before the first oil embargo, Europeans also loved and drove big cars just like Americans. European governments woke up to the fact that they have not even one dip of oil below their ass and dramatically increase their tax on gasoline in 1970s.
I asked some old local people when I was in Europe many years ago. The transportation policy diverged between the U.S. and Europe after the oil shocks in 1970s.
China's domestic gasoline price is not very high compared with the levels in other nations. I lived in various European countries, Canada and the US. I do agree with points contributed by other friends here.
Facts are facts. I understand your frustrations against the Chinese government, but you should not exaggerate.
BTW, I am using more and more public transportation these days to minimize driving. It is not because I am an environmentalist in the States. I have seen too many overweighty Americans around me who can not walk any more (they must drive).
Yes, I am not kidding you. Wives of my two colleagues are overweighty and they could not walk for more than 5 minutes these days.

导向,或者说社会风气其实是浮躁的,是极端自我的,只要是我想要的得不到就是没尊严。
既然非要抬杠,虽然您用的是欧元,却刻意不说明位置,咱就拿德国为标准来说
1 GOLF这类的listing price也就比您便宜大约10-15%,不过一般人买车,至少可以砍价3-5%,要是可以找便宜的,那些EU re-imported更便宜,也是新车,认识大众员工的,他们买车有18%的优惠,也合算。
2 估计您是在北欧福利国家,所以税高。在德国上个牌照也就是几十欧元,前后车牌合计15欧元(全德国统一价格).税的话柴油贵些,新车按照CO2排量走,恒定。
3 保险是根据您的Schadenfreiheit,也就是没事故的年头,普通人SF10保险,全保也就千把来块钱,要是省钱仅仅Hauptversicherung, 则全年也就大约380欧元到头了。
4 至于罚单,呵呵。在德国有法律保险的,不妨直接找律师,只要没有照片的,则有50%的可能推掉,而且就个人开车感觉,在德国各种摄像头还是很少的,有的虽然立在那里,但是并没有开动,仅仅起个威慑的作用,在德国高速不收费,而且不少路段,高速不限速,可以充分体验超速的感觉
5 至于薪水,不知道您举得的是自己的例子,还是刻意找的低收入的数据,呵呵。在德国就是经过职业培训的,每个月也有大约1000-1200欧元的入账,念过大学的,哪怕单身用1级税卡,交45%的税和保险后,每个月也有2000-3000欧元的入账,每年退税,还可以找出3000-7000的退税额度
退税不是把税返回给你,而是在第二年春季重新计算前一年的收入和赋税情况,多收的话返回给你,少缴税的还要补交。年薪4万欧元的很难有3000多欧元的返税。
注意:德国不少属于传统意义上的北欧国家,北欧三国的话是丹麦,瑞典,挪威,货币单位为克朗。广义一点儿的说法再加上冰岛和芬兰。
