There were quite a few Indian policemen deployed in British colonies over the world in the last two centuries. We called them Ar San, a sort of disgraceful name, in Shanghai. This term is still being practiced by many Chinese even in now days. Frankly, it’s about racial discrimination. As you might know, most Chinese believe they are smarter than other ethnic groups including Indians. The Opium wars changed everything. However, Chinese people thought they were only defeated by Whites not Indians. Ironically, Japanese only acknowledged their loss to Americans not Chinese after the WWII.

Forgive me if I offend you and other Chinese fellows.
