初见（2）

他们初次见面的那篇文字，绝对可以作为言情小说写作的范例和教材来对待，禁得起反复的回味和推敲。我引原文来说：

......There was only one student in the room, who was bending over a distant table absorbed in his work. At the sound of our steps he glanced round and sprang to his feet with a cry of pleasure. "I've found it! I've found it," he shouted to my companion, running towards us with a test-tube in his hand. "I have found a re-agent which is precipitated by haemoglobin, and by nothing else." Had he discovered a gold mine, greater delight could not have shone upon his features.

这正是所谓的尚未正式出场，音容已经扑面而来。我们几乎能看到消瘦的Holmes又喊又跳地拿着血清试剂奔向我们。在第三人简单地为他两做个介绍之后，Holmes立即完全忽略了第三人的存在，他对华生说的第一句话不是How do you do,而是"How are you?"而且是he said cordially, 并gripping my hand with a strength for which I should hardly have given him credit.一见如故的样子，也难怪很多人说H第一次见面就抓住W的手不放，完全是一见钟情的表现。

然后，H一语道破W曾去过阿富汗。" You have been in Afghanistan, I perceive."

"How on earth did you know that?" I asked in astonishment.

"Never mind," said he, chuckling to himself （福看到华的惊讶，还是蛮高兴）.................."No doubt you see the significance of this discovery of mine?" (从这句话可见H是个很孩子气也很自我的人）

"it is interesting, chemically, no doubt," I answered, "but practically..." （华生比较客气，他其实完全没看出H所说的重大意义，完全可以想像他说这话吞吞吐吐费尽心思想如何措辞才能避免挫伤H的热情，又能表达自己的真实感受。）

"Why, man, it is the most practical medico-legal discovery for years. Don't you see that it gives us an infallible test for blood stains? Come over here now!" He seized me by the coat-sleeve in his eagerness, and drew me over to the table at which he had been working. （H不接受任何W的置疑。对W的好感非常明显，初次见面就穷人献宝，又抓人手，又拉人袖子，我们自己想想，正常人正常的社交习惯，哪会是这个样子？W明明是个陌生人，在现在这个时候，H甚至都不知道W是来找他当室友的，就热切地希望W明白他在做什么，而对第三人，他根本连解释的兴趣都没有）。

“Let us have some fresh blood," he said, digging a long bodkin into his finger, and drawing off the resulting drop of blood in a chemical pipette. ........（Sigh，H的性格里有偏执的因子）

实验成功，

"Ha! ha!" he cried, clapping his hands, and looking as delighted as a child with a new toy. （仔细阅读原文，发现华生在描写H的时候，用了很多孩子气的小词，中文版的翻译并未能很好地传达出来。比如H情绪很好絮絮叨叨的时候，W说他Prattle----to talk incessantly and in a childish manner。从这些小词也可以看出W对H的包容和宠溺，尤其和第三人描述H的用语相比较。初次见面亦有骇人之举的H并没有令W感到怪诞，而是令W觉得生动有趣。）

"What do you think of that?" (试验成功，H很高兴，满腔喜悦并期待知音）

"It seems to be a very delicate test," I remarked. （华生状况外，只好说客套话）

"Beautiful! beautiful!................"H解释解释........BaraBara......

"Indeed!" I murmured. （华生继续状况外）

H继续解释，最后说Now we have the Sherlock Holmes's test, and there will no longer be any difficulty." His eyes fairly glittered as he spoke, and he put his hand over his heart and bowed as if to some applauding crowd conjured up by his imagination. （H真是超级lovely,他不是谦虚的人，对自己的才能和成就充满自信）

"You are to be congratulated," I remarked, considerably surprised at his enthusiasm.

H兴高采烈，继续兴高采烈。这时候，被忽略许久的第三人逮到了机会奉承了他对罪案的了解，建议他写相关的文章。H的反应 非常冷漠，就干巴巴地说了一句，“Very interesting reading it might be made, too,"恰能和他对W的态度形成鲜明对照。

最搞笑的是，他干巴巴地应付完第三人之后，立马又turning to me with a smile开始Bara Bara地对华生解释他为什么要贴创口贴。-----对比啊对比，H死小孩任性的个性已经跃然纸上。

估计第三人不能忍了，只好说是为了租房子而来 （可怜的Stamford，估计在H兴致勃勃地对W说话的时候，在一边内伤呢。这个场景如果拍出来绝对很爆笑。）

Sherlock Holmes seemed delighted at the idea of sharing his rooms with me. （我都忍不住要说，H，你太直白了吧？）

推荐：英国Granada公司拍摄的Holmes剧集，由Jeremy Brett和David Burke主演，是公认最好的Holmes和Watson。这部剧集制作精良，表演也非常细腻，推荐一下。
