Italian debt reaches record level for euro era of 6.06%

The cost of borrowing for Italy has increased to a record high of 6.06 per cent despite a deal being agreed this week to tackle the euro debt crisis.

Today, Italy paid 6.06 per cent to borrow money on ten-year terms at an auction. This is the highest rate Italy has had to pay since the euro was created in 1999.
