Euro May Decline After ECB's Trichet Warns Against Appreciation

Jan. 13 (Bloomberg) -- The euro may fall for a second day against the dollar after the head of the European Central Bank yesterday expressed concern about a 21 percent gain in the currency in the past year.

The euro fell from a record high yesterday after ECB chief Jean-Claude Trichet said ``brutal moves'' in the 12-nation currency were unwelcome. Last week he said rising demand for European exports were tempering the impact of the currency's gains. The ECB is under pressure from politicians and industry groups to prevent the gains from hampering an economic recovery.

The remarks ``seemed to mark a reversal from comments over the past couple of weeks from the ECB,'' said Craig Ferguson, senior currency strategist in Melbourne at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group. There will be declines ``in the euro from its highs over the next couple of weeks.''

The euro was at $1.2740 at 8:10 a.m. in Tokyo, from $1.2748 late in New York yesterday, having earlier touched a record high of $1.2899, according to EBS prices. It was also at 135.83 yen from 136.05. The euro has set record highs against the dollar on 11 of the past 19 trading days. It may fall below $1.27 this week and to $1.2550 in the next two weeks, Ferguson said.

家园 酒兄,等我忙完了一块加入你讨论财务金融问题,这算我的本行。

现在有点张罗不开的感觉。

家园 好!就等着风雨和俺喝点小酒,听点小曲,和着风雨声!
