White wines are not going to last as long as red wines. A dry white wine shouldn't be kept for more than about 4 years past its vintage date. A desert white wine will last upwards of 6-10 years beyond the vintage date. If you see the color change, the wine has begun to oxidize and will soon taste poorly. Red wines are a different story. Some Cabernet Sauvignon and French Bordeaux wines are easily stored for up to 30 years after their vintage date. After that they may need some special care, but could age for another 50 years or more. Other Reds like Merlot, Syrah and Zinfandel can go up to 10 years after their vintage date. Red desert wines, like Port, pretty much last forever.
